Soul, Sequins & Solid Gold
Congratulations, we love your work and invite you to participate in a special event Soul, Sequins & Solid Gold. Hosted by BLDG, this is a one of a kind collaborative art exhibition inspired by the legendary Paparazzi-style photography of Gene Spatz. Join us on this journey through all the glitz, glamor, rock ‘n roll, disco and drama of celebrity culture in the 70s and 80s. Exhibition Concept Soul, Sequins & Solid Gold explores deep affectations of celebrity culture, tantalizing audiences from one generation to the next with audacious depravity, cool-kid personas and flashy lifestyles. The experience begins with social photography of Gene Spatz (1942-2004), a paparazzo obsessed with “New Hollywood” virtues and celebrity culture. Enhancing the exhibition’s experience are collaborative works by hand selected contemporary artists who reinterpret and recontextualize screen-printed versions of Spatz’s iconic images. The paparazzi inspired exhibition welcomes pop-culture enthusiasts to lose themselves in a moment of history, enjoy opulence and become a star.
How This Works Once you’ve confirmed, BLDG will send a screen-printed Spatz image (30” x 44”) along with contextual information about the image and a loan agreement. Using the screen-print as the foundation for a new collaborative piece we encourage you to go wild and infuse the work with your imagination and perspective. Once completed, ship the ready-to-hang artwork and agreement back to BLDG by the deadline.
